Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 1, 2025

1. Overview

The Probability Lab is designed with privacy by default. We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the shared statistics features of the platform. We do not create user accounts, require registration, or collect personally identifiable information.

2. What We Collect

Simulation Results (Anonymous)

When you spin the roulette wheel, roll dice, flip a coin, or use a simulator, the result is stored in our database (Supabase/PostgreSQL). Stored data: the numerical result, the tool used, the timestamp, and your session ID (a random string, not linked to your identity).

Session ID

A randomly generated UUID is created on your first page load and stored in your browser's sessionStorage. This ID exists only for the duration of your browser session. It is used solely to distinguish "your session" results from global results in the stats view. It is not stored permanently, not linked to any personal information, and deleted when you close the tab.

Visit Data

We collect anonymized visit data including a one-way hashed IP address (cannot be reversed), country and city derived from IP geolocation, the page visited, and your browser's user agent string. This data is used solely for aggregate analytics (e.g., understanding which countries use the site). Raw IP addresses are never stored.

Technical Logs

Our hosting provider (Vercel) may log IP addresses for security and abuse prevention purposes. These logs are governed by Vercel's privacy policy.

3. What We Do NOT Collect

  • Name, email address, or any contact information
  • Precise geographic location
  • Device identifiers or persistent browser fingerprints
  • Browsing history outside this Site
  • Account credentials (there are no accounts)

4. Google AdSense

This Site displays advertisements through Google AdSense. Google may use cookies to show you relevant advertisements based on your browsing history and interests. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

To opt out of Google's interest-based advertising: visit adssettings.google.com. To opt out of all AdSense cookies: visit youronlinechoices.eu (EU users) or optout.aboutads.info (US users).

5. Cookies

We use no first-party tracking cookies. Google AdSense uses third-party cookies for ad personalization, as described in Section 4. You can decline non-essential cookies via the cookie banner on your first visit.

6. Data Retention

Anonymous simulation results (roulette spins, dice rolls, etc.) are retained indefinitely for statistical accuracy. Session IDs are temporary and not retained after session end. We do not offer deletion requests for anonymous data as it cannot be linked to any individual.

7. International Users

The site is hosted in the United States via Vercel. By using the Site, you consent to the transfer of anonymous data to US servers. For EU users: the data we collect does not constitute personal data under GDPR as it cannot be linked to an identified or identifiable person.

8. Children

This Site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. The mathematical tools are appropriate for educational use at all ages.

9. Changes to This Policy

We will post any changes to this policy on this page with an updated effective date.
